Foundry Tools — Something you'd not see today!

This picture was shot inside Alabama Foundry, Anniston, Alabama in the early 70′s. The foundry made cast iron fittings for soil and water main pipe before the influx of plastic pipe. Similiar tools were used for hundred’s of years to tamp down " green sand" used to create a form and allow iron to be poured and produce the fitting. The manufacturing process was all done by hand and probably is something long since disappeared. The foundry had no air-conditioning and was incredibly hot during the summer.
